CWH has restored 107 acres of wetlands, planted 25 acres of forested buffer, and created 13 acres of meadow on this 284-acre farm along the Wye River.

Donated to CWH in 2000 by the White and Bennett families, Barnstable is the Eastern Shore’s largest private, actively managed wildlife sanctuary. We restored more than 155 acres of habitat on the 540-acre waterfront farm, often using the Conservation Reserve Program or Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program. Crops are grown here using sustainable agricultural techniques without any insecticides or fungicides (we do not use treated seeds). This map shows the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) buffers and wetlands at Barnstable Hill Farm on Kent Island.

CWH restored wetlands, planted warm season grass meadows, and planted trees on this 275-acre farm at the headwaters of the Chester River on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
